8 Ways to Talk Yourself Into Vlogging with @ChristinaFaith

8 Ways to Talk Yourself Into Vlogging

I am a fear driven procrasinator. There I said it. But I’ve been killing my fear by doing the very thing I am afraid to do. Vlogging has been on my list for years. I have had EVERYTHING I needed to vlog for quiet sometime and instead of vlogging I’ve allowed myself to make excuses.

If your human you struggle with the exact same thing I struggle with on a daily bases. Excuses, negative thoughts and procrasination keep us from moving forward. Instead of accepting EVERY single excuse I made about not vlogging I overcame that fear by actually vlogging and this is what I came up with.

How are you going to overcome a fear? What have you been telling yourself you can’t do?

One year ago @withwendy had 70 k subscribers today she has 372k. Wendy started creating clothes out of desire to make what she saw but better. Every Wedneday Wendy provides a sewing tutorial and teaches future fashionista’s how to DIY clothing.

Wendy didn’t have a background in fashion on the contraty she worked in corporate America and decided to create a Youtube channel out of sheer desire.

When you first encounter Wendy’s creations you automatically have a sense of envy (just joking). She does an incredible job of making modern clothing from scratch that you wish you could buy at your favorite clothing boutique.

How I almost didn’t push publish on my webseries

Yesterday we launched Single and Anxious the web series. This was my second attempt of this particular show. I must admit after the first failed attempt I was fearful of even working on the series let alone releasing it. For 6 months I decided to conquer my fear of acceptance. Whenever you release a form of art you are open to criticism. Crictism in this social media era is plentiful. You get critiqued from every single angle. However; I learned I am my biggest critic and largest stumbling block. Here’s how fear worked during the creation of Single and Anxious.

Pre-Production

  • Is this actually going to work?
  • Will they learn these lines?
  • Will they have enough emotion?
  • Will we have enough crew?
  • Jesus where is the money coming from?
  • How am I going to feed all these people?
  • Where in the world are these locations coming from?

Production

  • This is never going to get done
  • What made me think I could write, rehearse, film, edit and score a series in 6 months?
  • That wig has to go
  • These long hours are killing me/us
  • Feeding these folks is expensive
  • Will the new mics be here in time?
  • Ugh the new mics are broke did we get enough for that scene?
  • Will we be able to use these new cameras properly?
  • What made you think you could shoot an entire episode in one day with EVERYONE on set for the first time?
  • Why did you take all these weddings on back to back after the filming for the show was done?

Post Production

  • This is a mess
  • We can’t put this out
  • Will Bernard get this coloring done in time?
  • Ohh Lord we lost all the audio for epiosde 6
  • These edits are terrible
  • What is ADR?
  • We can’t release this?
  • What am I going to do about the music?
  • I had no idea we needed so much music
  • Welp third sound person quit and this is a mess
  • This won’t work
  • Gabriel is going to die scoring and mixing this
  • OHH LORD now I have to edit more than half of the series in 3 weeks
  • So much is out of focus
  • Where am I getting closed capiton from?

There were many more fears that kept floating in my mind. The anxiety of the marketing became real. BUT I’ve been conquering those fears. We made ALOT of mistakes BUT we made some good art that we are proud of. Fear is false evidence appearing real. Don’t get me wrong all of these issues were real. However; they weren’t so big that I should not have pushed published. I find that a lot of people talk about what they want to create. Then the doing gets lost in fear and we never see those beautiful dreams. No matter how hard the road is travel it. The only way to conquer fear is in doing the exact thing it’s telling you not to do.

I did exactly the opposite of what “they” told me to do! It worked!

Well about a year ago I got a divorce from other people’s opinions and expectations of me and decided to follow God’s call over my life.

A year later and it led to completing my first web series season Single and Anxious from Start to Finish. Associate producing and Assistant editing a 16 episode documenatary series for PBS/BBC and just complete joy.

2017 is definitely going to be even better and I will be releasing more content on my blog and youtube channel. I’ve said this stuff so many times before but for the first time I have found my stride and I look forward to running at the pace I was created for.

On 12/18/16 Single and Anxious will premiere on Youtube and Amazon. Subscribe today and check out the trailer.

How to Grow Your Part-Time Passion to Full-Time Influence

Harold Arnold is a good friend. His work ethic is to be gleaned from. In this episode we discuss his new book Second Shift: How to Grow Your Part-Time Passion to Full-Time Influence.

You are uniquely created to reflect an aspect of God here on earth through the influence that you wield. Influence, however, is widely misunderstood as a commodity reserved for a precious few. In reality, you are designed to transform your families and communities with a transcendent message of hope as you commit to listen, love, and lead with authenticity.
Second Shift is a step-by-step plan for leveraging your passions as a path to extraordinary possibilities, especially suited for those pursuing them in the part-time margins of life.- Harold Arnold

There is always a– Way!

There is always a way.
It’s hard to admit that. The way is not always glamorous nor is it easy but there is always a way.

While on campus at the missions headquarters I haven’t been able to access my website hence why the post and podcast have been few and far in between but today I decided to call the hosting site and find another way.

The IT guy and I spent several days trying to figure out why my site was the only site that wasn’t accessible from mac devices We figured it was an IP issue and we thought we solved it. But we didn’t. In all honesty I gave up.

There were so many other things to do and I kind of forgot about it. But it’s a new season and I knew I needed to get back in the saddle.

After calling the hosting company she informed me that using a site such as kproxy.com could override the limtations and low and behold it did.

There is always a WAY. But what are you willing to do to get to the end goal?

When Trauma and Creativity Collide

Trauma can damage anyones creativity.

Recently, I’ve gone through a lot. Very traumatic events have taken place that resulted in mourning the lose of relationships of 10 plus years. Unfortunately, there was no way to avoid the lose if I wanted to regain my spiritually emotional freedom. The lost effected my husband and I so much that we had to move. The simplest way to explain it is that we discovered we were being spiritually abused. I won’t go into great detail regarding that but I will say church abuse is real but we still love God’s church and believe in the local church.

We aren’t those people who have incredibly bad experiences with the church and God’s people and turn our backs on everything related to Jesus. However; this experience has shown me that it’s real and I can understand to a degree why people go through those type of seasons where they need the grace of God to meet them heavily.

Throughout this experience I have been noticing some elements of my life that have been oppressed by other people’s opinions and thoughts of myself personally and creatively that distorted my actions. When I first began to blog in 2006 many of my blogs were about how I was processes what God was doing in my life and how I wanted to offer encouragement.

With all that is going on I am realizing that the value I add to this community is encouragement. I don’t know what traumatic experiences you have gone through personally but I do know that trauma will completely alter the way you view your own creativity and ability to be produce.

One of of the major issues with the creative soul is that it is stained by the opinions and thoughts of others. Don’t get me wrong! Creative critique is good and needed. It takes a humble person to allow others to give input on what they have created from there souls.

However; many of our creative entrepreneurial souls need to be restored from the opinions of others. We have stopped creating freely. There is an overload of blogs, books, and YouTube videos about the five steps to monetizing this and that.  The concepts are very alluring and suck you in. But is that what you are called to. I believe in monetizing. I believe in marketing. I believing in developing yourself. What I have been a victim of is adding the value others want me to add to others and not the value I’ve been created to add to others.

Our creative soul are in need of healing. We have become victims of the Instagram, follow, like, scaleable systems of this world and that is not how our creative souls were designed to work. Johnathan Golden has a new book releasing in Be You. Do Good.: Having the Guts to Pursue What Makes You Come Alive in the books he speaks about purpose. When we think of the work we do we must shift our focus away from the money, exposure, and thoughts of others. He states, “All of our work is a means of making God’s world on earth a bit more like heaven”.

Our creative souls will experience healing the more we do work that matters. You can pray, hustle and repeat but is that the hustle your supposed to be grinding at.

How have trauma tainted or flourished your creativity?

-Reflections for a person suffering with post traumatic growth.
