Learn to Code for iOS with Swifty

Recently, I’ve been talking to developer friends about learning how to code specifically for iOS. I signed up for Code School and then they released a new app called Swifty! If you are interested in expanding your skill set as an entrepreneur you should get this.

For those just starting their journey into the world of coding, however, those resources are still intimidating to jump into. Enter Swifty, an app that provides an interactive set of tutorials that gradually guide you through the basics of Swift on your iPhone or iPad.

There are more than 200 tutorials in Swifty, starting with the very basics of variables and data types and progressing to the essentials of object-oriented programming. Obviously the iPhone keyboard isn’t the best tool for cranking out lines of code (especially if you’re just starting out), so creator Johannes Berger came up with an interesting interface that looks and feels like coding while actually acting more like an interactive quiz.

We have absolutely no excuses anymore. Do you have an app idea? Do you want to be a developer? Get to learning for $2.99.

Apple Watch? Yes, Please

I have been an Apple fan since 2005. Apple has done more for me than I can even articulate from the technology, software to employment. I know a lot of people are speculating their need for an Apple Watch. I personally have one reason. The heart rate monitor capabilities. I have tried a lot of the fitness wrist devices on the market and none of them do what the Apple Watch will. Hence why I’d like an Apple watch.

EP 10: The Persistent Entrepreneur

There is hope for the persistent entrepreneur. However; it comes with a mighty price. Entrepreneurship has become this glamorized culture fad but it is not what it seems. To be an entrepreneur means you are rarely off especially in the beginning. Your days run together. You lose sleep. You miss social engagements. You are consistently feeding all of your money into a machine that you hope works.

I’ve been on this road for years (honestly, all my life). The greatest asset that I have had as an entrepreneur is faith, hope and persistence (hustle/grind). I have faith that what I hope for will work. When I was 13-14 years old my brother Hakim gave me Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich. Hill gave me hope! He used hundreds of modern day entrepreneurs and showed us the architecture for success.

Though, we have this formula for success we miss out on being successful entrepreneurs because we don’t finish what we start.

Hill states:

Lack of persistence. Most of us are good “starters” but poor “finishers” of everything we begin. Moreover, people are prone to give up at the first signs of defeat. There is no substitute for persistence. The person who makes persistence his watch-word, discovers that “Old Man Failure” finally becomes tired, and makes his departure. Failure cannot cope with persistence.

persistence |pərˈsistəns| nounfirm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition (dictionary.com)

Will you let a lack of HUSTLE stop you from completing what you ventured out to complete. It’s easy to talk about doing. It’s another thing to actually do. Salute to all the finishers in the world.

Take sometime today to think of everything you finished. Then work on what you have put to the side. This week I will be finishing my second book and like the first it has been a grand battle of persistence and not giving up when I’ve looked at blank pages. I am no longer concerned with the page count but with the impact that will have with the words that are inside of the pages written.

Dream Again

A few months ago I gave myself permission to dream again. I had been so inwardly fustrated with doing and not seeing the results that I desired. I took sometime off from doing music videos and projects for other people besides weddings in 2013-2014 because I felt like the projects were sapping the life out of me. It wasn’t the projects that were sapping my creativity but the people I was working with. Working creatively with people can be hard. You may not always agree and people tend to slide into your role as a director. Needless to say I needed sometime to dream again.

Working with others is rewarding I absolutely love it. However, I need creative freedom as a director and writer. Taking the step back allowed me to dream again. If you have been dry in your creativity its time to re-evaluate why you are doing what you do. Are you writing and shooting for money? Are you an accountant for the pay? Why did you get into what you are into? I got into creativity because I wanted to forge CHANGE.

My husband and I watched Belle last night and I was inspired. The movie was well written, the actors, set, and cinematography were all perfect. The message of the movie was heart wrenching. What are you willing to do for change and love?

Take a moment today and dream again! The names of what I do have changed company wise. From The Uprise, Arise, Kingdom First, Colab and now Creative Thought Media but the vision remains the same. Bring change in the world of media. Will you dream with me? What’s your dream? What’s stopping you?

How You Can Spend Your Snow Delay

#Goodmorning on this snowy day with delays don’t get more sleep spend more time with the Lord. Grab your Bible, journal, pens, highlighters and worship music and go listen and talk to the King! He longs to hear your heart and speak life back into it. Remember thanksgiving and confession (repentance) open the door to His voice speaking. If you’ve been living wack He’s always available to clean you off. God’s heart is for us to dwell with Him forever not that we would dwell with Him when things seem to be going good. There are too many saints in living opposed to Jesus’ plan and purpose for our lives. There are too many saints living without faith in the God of the impossible focused on their jobs, careers and bank accounts. There are too many unsaved people yearning for truth looking towards the newest self help, yogi, mosque, temple, fashion trend instead of looking the Savior of the universe dead in the face and saying, “  need You, Jesus. Forgive me”. Daily we need Him in this hustle and grind of life. I was a sinner that didn’t know Him. Now I’m a saint that sins and needs Him daily! Jesus is for everyone! Now go spend sometime with Him.

Do The Work You Dream Of

Many of the limitations we place on ourselves don’t actually exist. In August I was encouraged to do everything possible to get my dreams out. Don’t wait around for someone else to support your work or do what you imagine. Take this Hobbit edit the editor envisioned a different version when they saw the movie based on the book. Take the time and do the work you dream of! Don’t wait for someone else to do it or agree with it. You have your own permission to dream!
